Joshua Reiterates on Controversial ‘Kill’ Statements Towards Jake Paul

Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul face off
The YouTuber-turned-boxer is set to fight a considerable disadvantage against former world titleholder Anthony Joshua.

The British heavyweight repeated his controversial remarks about wanting to “kill” his opponent during a press event in Florida on Wednesday.

His words were originally stated on Tuesday when the boxer was questioned if he would show restraint against the social media star, replying that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming fight against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has drawn debate over safety concerns and the physical disparity between the two athletes.

Fury Labels AJ a “Classless Loser”

Former titleholder Tyson Fury branded Joshua a “disgrace” for his inflammatory language.

But the 36-year-old fighter, justified his stance: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a licence to kill.

“I'm sure many people don't understand it but this is what my job is. I take pleasure in what I do. The outcome, happens - provided that my hand is held high, that's what's crucial, respectfully.”

He added, “That's just the mentality we have to have as boxers. I don't know if other boxers think that way. Perhaps they're a bit more conservative. The way my mind works. When you're in the squared circle, it's a dangerous thing. Everything can happen.”

“You wish your adversary leaves the ring unharmed, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed aware you just did your job. It was not personal.”

Paul's Fiery Response

Jake Paul, a considerable underdog in the fight as a natural cruiserweight, was no less combative in his reply.

“This is a modern day combat sport,” Paul declared. “I'm prepared. I want his strongest punches. I want there to be zero excuses when it's all over. We should kill each other.”

AJ will face his opponent, in his twenties, at Miami's arena in a fight many consider a glaring mismatch, with some arguing it should have been approved as an non-professional fight.

The official fight will be fought over eight three-minute rounds using standard ten-ounce padded gloves, with a stipulated weight limit for the former champion.

Joshua Says He Was “Called In to Rescue” The Sport

Despite the vulgar language used, the fighter said he has been “called in to rescue” boxing.

“They want me to stop the Jake Paul phenomenon and I comprehend it and that's why I have to carry boxing on my back in this bout,” he added.

The event also had more humorous exchanges, with Joshua smiling as Paul sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The final staredown concluded peacefully, with Paul striking a odd posture before the champion remained composed and lightly touched his chain.

Paul & Joshua Dismiss Scripted Allegations

The surreal nature of this bout has led to questions about its authenticity, including claims that he may be prohibited from knocking Paul out.

“There's nothing in the agreement, Joshua can attest to it. We're going to war,” Jake Paul insisted.

The former champion, wearing a expensive necklace, humorously added, “The only thing in the agreement that got my interest was the purse.”

Paul has stated on his platforms that the fight earnings will be exceptionally large.

Largest Upset in Sport's History?

Jake Paul first made his name as an online prankster, gathering a huge social media following.

He has not faced anyone of the former champion's calibre but maintained that his rival would not underestimate him.

“It's a wise move on his part,” Paul said. “This could potentially be, and will be, the greatest loss of his life.”

A win for Paul would be arguably the most shocking surprise in the sport's history.

It would undoubtedly leave an permanent mark on his legacy, but the fighter stated it would not spell the end.

“I'd return again, shake it off,” he said. “I'll be main eventing again in a year or two. It is what it is. I'm a player in the sport.”
