US Armed Forces Executes Lethal Attack in Eastern Pacific, Resulting in 4 Fatalities

As stated by a high-ranking defense official, the American military executed a fatal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Background and Recent Actions

This announcement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, vowing to escalate the military buildup.

Just on Tuesday, US defense officials said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Tactics Amidst Pressure

The administration has faced growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, arguing it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of legal military action.

While the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to confirm a broader geopolitical objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a strategy to oust Venezuela's sitting government.
